EDIA – Empresa de Desenvolvimento e Infra-estruturas do Alqueva, S.A., is a state corporate company, based in Beja, and was set up in 1995. It is responsible for the design, construction, operation, promotion and enhancement of the Alqueva multi-purpose project (EFMA).
Centered on the integrated management of the Alqueva strategic water reserve, EFMA is the major national hydraulic Project on the concept of multiple purposes, namely: public and industrial supply, irrigated agriculture, industry, production of clean energy and tourism.
Around 120.000 ha of irrigated land are in operation and with the highest adoption rate.
